How to make your leave go further
Public-holiday planning
- Lunar New Year is one of the most valuable clusters for annual-leave planning.
- Ching Ming, Buddha’s Birthday, Tuen Ng and the Mid-Autumn period provide additional opportunities.
- Hong Kong has both statutory-holiday rules and broader general-holiday calendars; verify which applies to your employment.
Legal basis and comparison method
Employees under a continuous contract receive seven days of paid annual leave after 12 months, increasing progressively with service to 14 days from nine years.
Equivalent by service length
| 1st year / first full entitlement | 7 days |
| 2 years | 7 days |
| 5 years | 10 days |
| 10 years | 14 days |
| 20+ years | 14 days |
Simplified comparison points. Actual legal thresholds may use anniversaries, cumulative service, education credits or other rules.
Regional and calendar caveats
The planner combines weekends with supported public-holiday data and can use first-level regional calendars where the dataset provides them. Employer-specific, municipal and sector-specific days can still differ.
This is a planning aid, not employment-law advice. Entitlement can depend on tenure, work pattern, sector, contract, collective agreement and regional law.
